The New York Times’ columnist visits India often. I read about his new book The World is Flat in his interview with a leading Indian National newspaper. The tte–tte in general awakened my senses.. most of the interview revolved around internet and its major impact on business community in general. Let us focus upon one facet - the possibility of making money online.
According to his new book The World is Flat (and how right he is!) Internet has been successful in providing all of us with a platform to grow. Internet has provided each one of us with an equal opportunity and scope to make use of it and make money
online. A simple, single handedly well managed website can earn the webmaster a fortune. An idea single mindedly managed did make Sabeer Bhatia the ‘Hotmail guy’ a billionaire! And the internet has gone far beyond and its scope has expanded many times since… No more exceptions now. We can all work on the internet. work from home. And make money online.
Whether you have limited resources or unlimited, whether you want to write your own book and sell it or sell a book written by somebody, you want to sell a software, new tactic, an idea, information, database… whatever. You can market it on your own, you can take help of professionals… the options are limitless…. you can make money working on the internet as you
want. You could be a student, retired, a team of like minded people, some one who wants extra income and wants to work from home part-time in spare time… you just name it and the possibility of making money online exists already.
The World is Flat. One platform - for everyone and anyone. Equal scope- for a newbie or veteran alike. The timing and situation is perfect. The question is “Are you ready for it?” The suggestion is, give it a thought.

Myth 1: Eliminating fat from your diet will help to lose weight faster.
Fact: Many people think that if they cut fat from their daily nutrition, it’ll help to lose weight faster. But take a look on fat-free or low-fat products, such as cookies and ice-cream, which are very high in calories. Do you think it is better solution? You can also gain extra pounds if you eat huge quantities of low-fat, carbohydrate-rich foods like pasta or white bread. Always check the calorie content of low-fat meals, especially for products like cakes, ice-cream, crisps, cookies. Don’t be surprised when you’ll find that there’s little difference in calorie content compared to standard products.
Myth 2: Crash dieting makes to lose weight faster
Fact: It can be true in the shot term, but later you’ll gain pounds as fast as you lose them. Remember, losing weight over the long term (for ex., 2-4 pounds per month) burns off but, while crash dieting not only reduces fat, but also attenuates muscles and tissue.
Myth 3: Stop eating after 8 p.m.
Fact: Many people believe that eating in the evening makes their body to store fat and try to stop eating after 6 p.m. It can be true if you eat more calorie foods than you’ve burned during the day.
Try to plan your daily nutrition and always leave enough calories for dinner.
Myth 4: Nuts are fattening
Fact: In fact, nuts are high in calories and fat, but they also are full of vitamins, fiber, protein, minerals and they keep blood sugar steady. More to say, it’s much better to consume handful of nuts instead eating sweets. It means that there is no reason to stop eating nuts, just pay attention on amount.
Myth 5: Foods like grapefruit, celery, apple vinegar and cabbage soup burn fat
Fact: There are no foods that can burn fat. It’s believed that products that contain caffeine may speed up metabolism, but they can’t burn fat.
Myth 6: Use honey instead of sugar
Fact: It’s known that honey contain 75% of sugar and it’s also higher in calories. Take a look - 1 tsp of honey contains 25 calories while 1 tsp of sugar has only 16! But if you prefer honey - that’s ok, just use it in a small amount.
Myth 7: It’s not necessary to exercise when you are on a diet
Fact: It’s true that dieting alone can help to lose weight, but muscles and extra skin (that appears after losing much weight) will look awful. Working out will double your rate of weight loss and also your muscles will look great.

Market Timing: Everywhere we turn, we are “advised” to “Buy and Hold”, rather than try
to “time the market”.
We are told that the only way we are assured of fully participating in all the spectacular
market rises is to remain fully invested at all times.
That is precisely the same technique to ensure that we also fully participate in all the
spectacular market crashes.
If a stock paid 5% a year in dividends, a 100% rise in price is equal to 20 years worth
of dividends. A 50% decline in price is equal to losing 10 years of dividends. It gets
more dramatic the lower the dividend.
Even a casual perusal of the financial pages will yield many stocks that move, up or down,
50-100% each year.
No one, realistically, expects to buy the bottom or sell the top.
However, consider if, by whatever market timing technique employed, one were able to
accomplish all purchases in the lower third of the annual price range and all sales
in the upper third, one would be able to claim the middle third as profit.
How much annual ROI (return on investment) would that amount to? Would such a goal be
worthy of ones’ time and effort? You decide.
Market timing: Like so many other things in life, timing is everything!

Subliminal persuasion? It is simply influencing people at a level below their conscious recognition. Many people don’t even realize they are being influenced by a smile, making even that a subliminal technique. Here are two more subtle methods.
Subliminal Persuasion Using Inflection
It is easy to assume that a sentence like “I can’t promise you that price.” has only one meaning. In reality, though, inflection provides much of the actual meaning. Look at the each of the sentences below, each with a different word emphasized, and followed by the implied meaning.
I can’t promise you that price. (But maybe someone can.)
I CAN’T promise you that price. (There’s no way.)
I can’t PROMISE you that price. (But maybe you’ll get it.)
I can’t promise YOU that price. (But I can promise someone else.)
I can’t promise you THAT price. (But maybe a good price.)
I can’t promise you that PRICE. (But I can promise something.)
The meaning of our statements is determined by which words we emphasize, and it is a subtle process. If you can’t promise him that price, you can tell him “I can’t promise you that PRICE,” and he may still feel good about the situation, especially if you immediately follow with what you can promise him. You probably know what you want to say. Understanding the subtle and often subliminal power of inflection will mean you actually say it.
Subliminal Persuasion Using Their Own Words
Restate what a person has said they want, and then show them how you can give them that. We all need to have some internal consistency, so we don’t like to act against what we say. This is why, as long as you have what they need, this technique works well. For an example, we’ll suppose you are selling a prospect a vacation.
After listening to what they want, you find something that fits their needs, and then say, “If I remember right, you said you wanted a warm beach, under $2,000 for the week, and with nearby nightlife. I think we’re in luck. Both of the packages we just looked at fit your criteria, so do you like Cancun or the Bahamas better?”
It is tough for someone to say they are not interested when you just found exactly what they said they wanted, and reminded them of their words. They probably won’t even notice that you are using their exact words. They’ll just feel uncomfortable contradicting what they said, and find it easier to agree. That’s subliminal persuasion.
