If you’re looking to buy a kitchen sink, then you must consider every detail and feature. The Kitchen sink is probably the most used aperture in the whole household, even if you’re using a dishwasher, most of the cleaning is still done in your ordinary kitchen sink, all the more reason why you should find the best one around.
Size
Choosing a kitchen sink apart from being a question of quality is also a question of need. Most of the standard sinks that you will find in the market roughly consist of two 22 by 30 inch sized bowls both 8 inches in depth, however, if you use large pots, you might want bigger sizes or you might want to have them specially made. Nine and Ten inch deep bowls are also available commercially. Added features like bowls for peeled fruits in the center can be very handy.
Whistles and Bells
If you want your sink to have all the whistles and bells available, then you might want more pre-drilled holes on it. Most sinks have four holes on it, one for the hot knob, one for the cold knob, one for the faucet and another one for the shower feature. Some sinks however have extra spouts, for soap dispensers, an air gap for the dishwasher drain, a liquid soap dispenser, a TV, well just kidding about the TV. But if some sinks have extra features that you might not want to use, you can always ask the supplier for ready made plugs to cover the unused holes, conversely, if the sink you choose doesn’t have enough holes, you can easily drill a hole in your sink, or maybe have it drilled by a professional.
Installation
Apart from choosing a design and a type, you should also be aware of your sink’s location, will your chosen sink fit in the desired location etc. You can choose from a self rimming sink or an undermount. A self rimming sink is easier to install and would just rest on top of your counter, however, the underside where the sink meets the countertop can be a breeding ground for bacteria and may be hard to clean. An undermount however, is harder to install because it has to be attached from under the counter. This type however, is easier to clean.
Type of Sink
Now we proceed to choosing which type of sink to choose. To make the choice easier, a few pros and cons are listed together with a brief description of each type of sink.
Stainless Steel
This is probably the most common kitchen sink around and is available in all prices ranges. However, you don’t expect to buy the best quality sink for a cheap price. Usually a cheap stainless steel sink is made of thin metal which flexes and vibrates. This is especially bad because of the racket it makes when the water drums on it or when the garbage disposal vibrates. A good quality sink doesn’t get scratched easily and should be easy to clean. A sign of a good quality sink is also its ability to maintain a brand new appearance even if you just wipe it.
A general rule for buying stainless steel sink is not to buy mirror type ones, sure they’ll look great when brand new, but overtime scratching will mar its surface and give it a foggy dirty look. Another good tip is to check the insulation under the bowl, insulation deadens the water drumming. Foam insulations are always better than those that are just sprayed on.
Enameled Cast Iron
The best thing about enamel cast iron sinks is its elegant finish which is available in many colors. It has a very hard finish and will rarely chip. Another good thing about this is its resistance to water drumming. It keeps hot water hot longer, and if you’re excited about that, you’ll be happy to know that clean up is a breeze, a good wipe over should be enough for this baby to get back its original shine.
Warning: There are Enameled Steel sinks, but these aren’t the same quality as cast iron sinks.
Composite sinks
These are sinks made from a mixture of two different substances to make a very sturdy material. Generally, Acrylic and fiberglass aren’t a very good combination because they tend to easily absorb stains and as time passes, lose the glossy finish.
A Quartz composite sink might be the best choice for this range of sinks. These are known for their durability.
Composite sinks however, are susceptible to scratching. You should avoid rubbing sand or dirt on them or using abrasive cleaners. The water drumming is still present but probably not as loud as stainless steel sinks.
Tip: To make sure that you have a sturdy sink, press down on the bowl, if it flexes, there are chances of a noisy garbage disposal.
Integral solid surface
You can buy a sink that is already integrated with a countertop, mostly in the same color or a complementary design. These types are easily scratched but are easily repaired as
well. The bad side is if you’re tired of the sink, you’ll have to remove the whole countertop.

Bali is known by many names to those who have visited the island. Many Indonesians refer to this slice of paradise as “Pulau Dewa” or “Island of the gods”. Since October 2002 the island has seen a marked downturn in the number of foreign tourists arriving to enjoy the scenic, cultural and religious diversity found here. Hopefully with a peaceful election campaign behind us, Bali will again see tourists returning in numbers.
Our visit to Bali in March was not a holiday, but rather a visit to look at the cooperative growing system for Arabica found in the highland areas of central Bali. Traditionally Balinese coffee was of the robusta variety. This is the coffee that many tourists visiting the island experience and love. The origins of Robusta here can be traced back to the beginning of the 20th century or earlier. Commercial Colonial plantations never made an impact in Bali because the Dutch did not get any degree of control over the island until the 1900’s. By this time the big plantations in Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi were already well established. The Robusta in Bali most likely came via traders from Ampenan in Lombok. The growing conditions in Bali are ideal for coffee trees, and small-scale production quickly spread in the cooler, higher altitude areas of the Island.
In recent times, with Robusta prices falling, Arabica has been planted in several areas of the Island. Some of these plantings are in commercial plantations, however the bulk are beans grown by small-holders in a number of villages saddling the volcanic peaks. Our visit was to examine the drying and processing facilities for this mountain grown Bali Arabica.
As in the rest of the coffee world, the small-holders make up the bulk of the growers, but receive little real financial reward for their efforts. Our concern is always to look for a way in which to help these small growers to improve their picking, drying and sorting processes in order for them to be able to market their coffee to the specialty coffee market outside of Indonesia. In most cases the growers are more than happy to listen to ideas on how to improve the finished quality of their product. In Bali the yields from the trees in raw cherries is very good. Most coop growers are uncertified organic- the costs of pesticides against the price for the finished bean do not make sense. The small holders almost universally follow the dry method of processing the beans. This involves laying the fruit out under the sun in large, flat concrete drying pens. The coffee is raked regularly to ensure the drying proceeds at a constant pace. Prior to drying the cooperative removes poor quality cherries- usually berries that are not ripe, have evidence of surface fungal diseases or berries that have been damaged by birds or other pests. After drying and removal of the remaining mucilage, the beans are again sorted. This time beans are sorted based on whether there is evidence of damage by borer, discoloration, black beans or split and broken beans. This is the extent of sorting- there is no screen sizing done by the cooperatives at origin, as normally the beans are on-sold to big producers who then sort further.
We like the early season greens that we saw in the highlands of Bali. The colours and firmness of the bean are good, as was the general quality. Test roasting resulted in us deciding that the dry-processed bean had some characteristics reminiscent of the lower altitude Java Arabica beans. A very mellow, slightly honey-dew taste…..We are looking forward to later in the year when we will be in Bali for the harvest of the bulk of the 2004 crop.

1. When you make your first sale, follow-up with the
customer. You could follow-up with a “thank you”
email and include an advertisement for other products
you sell. You could follow-up every few months.
2. You could upsell to your customers. When they’re
at your order page, tell them about a few extra related
products you have for sale. They could just add it to
their original order.
3. Tell your customers if they refer four customers to
your web site, they will receive a full rebate of their

Scientists are currently conducting a study on loblolly pines.
The study utilizes a ring of carbon dioxide generators that
surrounds patches of these trees. The purpose of the study is to
determine the effect of an increase of CO2 in the air on these
pine trees.
So far, they have noticed that the trees seem to be growing and
reproducing much faster than before. They are also developing
more needles - an average of 17% more needles than typical
loblolly pines. At first blush, this looks like a good thing.
Trees hold carbon dioxide inside them, keeping it out of the
atmosphere. It appears that the CO2 problem will be
self-remedying: more CO2 produces more trees which absorb the
additional CO2. The system appears to be self-stabilizing.
There is a dark-side of course. For one, other species of trees
probably won’t enjoy the additional growth spurt. This means
that the loblolly pine could spread quickly, pushing out other
species of trees, such as oak or maple. This can change the
entire landscape of an ecosystem — for example, squirrels and
black bear rely on acorns from hardwood trees. If the loblolly
pushes out these trees, the populations of squirrel and black
bear will have to move on or die.
Another issue, and the one we can learn a lesson from, is
sustainability. The rapid growth of these trees is using up soil
minerals much faster than they would normally. According to
scientists, the trees will eventually run out of nutrients and
fixed nitrogen, and then growth will come to a crashing halt,
and may even reverse itself. So, by using up their “fuel” in
order to create “rapid growth”, they will eventually run out of
“fuel” and growth will stop or reverse itself. Does anyone else
see a parallel to our own civilization here?
Nature is self-regulating. This is where my fellow liberals and
progressives often get things wrong. Nature does not need man to
protect it. Nature does not care if man abuses it. As our
conservative bretheren are fond of pointing out, the Earth has
survived much worse natural disasters than anything Man has been
able to throw at it, and life has always found a way to survive
and to thrive. Sure, it can take millions of years, but it does
survive. . . and what is a few million years to a planet that is
4 billion years old?
Conservation is not an end unto itself. Conservation is not
necessary to protect the Earth. No, conservation is necessary to
protect and aid Mankind, not nature. Destroying rainforests,
burning fossil fuels, overdeveloping the land. . . all the
result of our species spreading and growing and consuming
resources. Nature will correct this. We will run out of
rainforests, we will run out of fossil fuels, and we will run
out of developable land. Our sources of food and clean water
will be depleted; our sources of medicine and other critical
products will be depleted. The growth of our species will come
to a crashing halt, and will reverse itself. It will reverse
itself back to sustainable levels — however, the ’sustainable
level’ will be much lower then than it is now since we will have
used up almost all of what we need to keep going as a species
and as a society.
Malthus was the first to predict this. He showed that, unless
something else checks the growth of a species, the species will
eventually “crash.” Catastrophic disaster will inevitably reduce
a species’ numbers well below the sustainability level. In other
words, if humans don’t regulate themselves willingly, nature
will regulate us, and nature is far less selective or merciful
about how it accomplishes this.
When we speak of growth now, we are not just talking about
growth in numbers, although that is part of the equation. We are
talking mostly about growth in consumption of resources. Even if
our population was stable, our consumption will continue to
increase as the develping world becomes more and more developed.
This growth in consumption, like the growth in numbers, is
subject to the same law of Malthus — if we don’t regulate it
ourselves, it will be regulated for us, and it will be regulated
by catastrophe rather than planning.

Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics are relatively new to the cosmetics scene, though not unknown. Yves Saint Laurent actually worked with Christian Dior for a good while, giving the brand the quality and marketability that it needs to really make it’s presence known. Christian Dior may have never intended for Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics to be a competitor of his, but great work ethic, creativity, and smart business sense has made YLS a stand out cosmetics provider for several years now. Many refer to Yves Saint Laurent as the apprentice of Christian Dior, but this really is not the case. Yves Saint Laurent simply worked alongside Christian Dior and put all of his talents as well as what he learned working with Christian Dior to good use. The cosmetics line has been a huge success thus far, and has a lot of promise for the future.
Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics is known for its full line of cosmetics including moisturizers, foundations, blush, eye shadow, eye liner, lipstick, and more. Although the makeup side of the cosmetics line is becoming very popular, its offerings do not stop there. In fact, the Yves Saint Laurent offers a whole host of product such as fashion products, accessories, jewelry, fragrance, and ready to wear items. Such a wide line of products attracts many women because it means that they can deal with one designer for all of their beauty needs, which is becoming more and more common. Women like to deal with one designer such as Yves Saint Laurent because they know what type of quality they can count on, which is important to most women that really want to look good. It seems that this cosmetics line will just continue grow as more and more women find the one stop shopping style of buying cosmetics highly appealing.
The Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics line is actually becoming quite well known for their fragrances. The Opium Parfum retailing for $100 has become very popular and is known as a rich, fragrant scent that is neither to heavy or too light. The popular Cinema fragrance is also a beautiful scent and more affordable for many women, retailing at just $45. The Baby Doll Limited line is also building steam, proving that the Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics line is a real contender in the fragrances arena.
While the cosmetic line is gaining momentum and attracting more and more women, it can’t be found just anywhere. You will find that the Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics are typically sold in higher end cosmetics retailers such as department stores or stand alone cosmetics retailers such as Sephora. If you cannot find a YSL dealer in your area, you can always check online. When you log on the Internet you can usually find some great prices on your favorite Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics as well as access to the newest and most exciting new products offered. Because the cosmetics line is high end, you won’t be able to walk into a discount store and find the things that you are looking for, but you can generally find most of the products at discount prices on the Internet, which can save you a lot of money.
The Yves Saint Laurent is a great cosmetics line for everyone because it offers a little bit of everything for everyone. Prices on all of the cosmetics really do vary, but generally consumers find that all of the products are well worth the retail prices. Great make-up, fragrances, and accessories make the YSL cosmetics line one to watch now and in the future.
